WORLD AIDS DAY
World
AIDS Day takes place every year on December 1st and is a day about getting and understanding the facts about HIV and
AIDS. It is a day of awareness, education, and action.
It began in 1988 and is not just about raising money…it’s also about
increasing awareness, education, and decreasing stigma and
prejudice. For years World AIDS day was organized by UNAIDS, but is now
run by the World AIDS Campaign. Each year this group picks a theme for
the year and for 2005 it is “Stop AIDS: Keep the Promise.” You can help
by wearing a red ribbon to increase awareness and remind people that HIV
is still out there and there is much left to be done.
Remember, AIDS is preventable…protect yourself and your partner.
